Call for input: CUSP launches survey to shape the Competence Framework for Science Diplomacy
Survey can be filled in until 15 November 2026.

The CUSP (Consolidating European Science Diplomacy) project is inviting researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and other professionals working at the intersection of science, technology, policy, and international relations to complete a survey for the Competence Framework for Science Diplomacy. This framework will directly contribute to CUSP's efforts to equip current and future practitioners with the skills that 21st-century science diplomacy demands.
The planned framework is designed to be modular, addressing the specific needs of researchers, diplomats, and policymakers as the main target group. Other groups working in this field, including research managers and international-office staff, will also benefit, depending on their specific tasks and professional focus.
This survey will help identify the most critical competencies for different stakeholders in the field of science diplomacy and define the proposed target audiences. The results will directly shape the content and structure of future training curricula.
Respondents will be asked to provide feedback on four thematic clusters:
- Cluster 1: Understanding & approaches
- Cluster 2: Skills & capabilities
- Cluster 3: Attitudes & behaviours
- Cluster 4: Institutional & systemic enablers
Each cluster includes, on average, eight subtopics. The main objective of the survey is to rate the overall relevance of the subtopics for effective science diplomacy practice, define the main target group for each listed competence, and indicate the career stage of stakeholders for whom this knowledge might be relevant.
How to provide your feedback
- Register as a member of the Science Diplomacy Hub and complete your community profile. Input can only be provided if the profile is complete.
